Life of Labor 20.jpg
Migrants - mostly Mexicans, Puerto Ricans and Mexican Americans - are the working poor toiling in the fields to earn wages that are often below the poverty level. They come to the Imlay City area of Michigan (between Flint and Port Huron) each summer to pick, hoe and pack vegetables and fruit. I made these photographs while working on the staff of the Flint Journal in the summer of 1989.
